Stock Mfg. Co.

20130424-000545.jpg

Chicago’s own Stock Mfg. Co. is a men’s garment brand that’s changing the game by selling premium clothing directly from their historic West Side factory, with no middleman markups. I should have paid double for the bow tie and pocket square (above) at last weekend’s Scofflaw Bazaar, another type of pop-up merchant model that Stock offers, until their recent agreement with Bloomingdale’s to sell limited items takes effect later this summer. Can’t wait? Stock’s Kickstarter is running through the end of April, where you can back the project in style.

Sense of Home

20121223-160340.jpg

Meet Julie Fernstrom, owner of Brimfiled, a home decoration and upholstery store in Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood. While living in Wales, U.K., Julie had a love for poking around flea markets & discovering such cozy plaid blankets and decadent antique furniture that make her store so unique today, filled with one-of-a-kind pieces that create the perfect sense of “home.” Brimfield specializes in reupholstery, custom furniture, and carry a large selection of vintage & antique pieces in the 4,000-square-foot shop. Stop in and say hi to Julie at 5219 North Clark St.

Post Game: HoliDose Market on 12/9

20121214-233829.jpg

The monthly Dose Market at River East Art Center was bustling with energy last weekend in HoliDose spirit. New and old vendors converged with their products on display and plenty to taste from local artisans and small business owners who have a modern twist on how their industry should operate. Some of my favorite Dosers were Koval Distilleries, Begyle Brewery, Bittercube Bitters, Big Shoulders Coffee, Do-Rite Doughnuts, Brown Bad Food Truck, Artfully Disheveled, Stock Mfg, Fourth is King, and many others.

Tour of Trunk Club

20121209-082012.jpg

For gainfully employed men who have not the time, or desire, or the aesthetic wherewithal to put it together, Trunk Club is here to help. Trunk Club is a Chicago-based men’s clothing service where a personal stylist handpicks a trunk of high-end clothes and ships it to you for free. It’s not terrible. You can also visit this spacious 3D version of GQ where beautiful girls want to feed you booze, hold a conversation, and watch you try on clothes that they think will look good on you. Again, I’ve had more painful shopping trips.
