Stock Mfg. Co.

20130424-000545.jpg

Chicago’s own Stock Mfg. Co. is a men’s garment brand that’s changing the game by selling premium clothing directly from their historic West Side factory, with no middleman markups. I should have paid double for the bow tie and pocket square (above) at last weekend’s Scofflaw Bazaar, another type of pop-up merchant model that Stock offers, until their recent agreement with Bloomingdale’s to sell limited items takes effect later this summer. Can’t wait? Stock’s Kickstarter is running through the end of April, where you can back the project in style.

Post Game: HoliDose Market on 12/9

20121214-233829.jpg

The monthly Dose Market at River East Art Center was bustling with energy last weekend in HoliDose spirit. New and old vendors converged with their products on display and plenty to taste from local artisans and small business owners who have a modern twist on how their industry should operate. Some of my favorite Dosers were Koval Distilleries, Begyle Brewery, Bittercube Bitters, Big Shoulders Coffee, Do-Rite Doughnuts, Brown Bad Food Truck, Artfully Disheveled, Stock Mfg, Fourth is King, and many others.

Tour of Trunk Club

20121209-082012.jpg

For gainfully employed men who have not the time, or desire, or the aesthetic wherewithal to put it together, Trunk Club is here to help. Trunk Club is a Chicago-based men’s clothing service where a personal stylist handpicks a trunk of high-end clothes and ships it to you for free. It’s not terrible. You can also visit this spacious 3D version of GQ where beautiful girls want to feed you booze, hold a conversation, and watch you try on clothes that they think will look good on you. Again, I’ve had more painful shopping trips.

Dutch clothier Scotch & Soda is to the 1600 block of N. Damen Avenue on November 16. Great fit for the neighborhood.

Thanks for the image, AR.

Fall Style Details

20121011-081036.jpg

My friends at Haberdash have been busy with the Fall Style Guide Launch Party last weekend and the ROOF Runway at the Wit tonight, inspiring me to step my game up with some favorites from last year, as well as some new gear for the crisp weather. Flannel shirt from New England Shirt Co., tie from Gitman Bros., water-resistant jacket from Banana, work boots from Thorogood, belt from j. crew, and jeans are always from Levi’s and always the proper length.

The Sartorialist Lunch, Florence

This video is a recap of one of the latest lunch gatherings hosted by The Sartorialist in Florence. It is at this straccetti chewing swag exchange that style blogger, Scott Shuman gathers some of the best dressed motherfuckers in the world as a way to say thanks for allowing him to photograph their respective styles and post the pictures to his blog, which sees upward of 450,000 hits a day. Schuman, as this expose from GQ describes, basically bikes the streets of New York, Paris, and Milan for a living, looking for bearded peacocks.

_____
“How many times a year is Kanye in a room where he’s not the center of attention, not counting those moments when he’s in a room with Jay-Z or Oprah? Five times? Three? This is proof that on some level Schuman has actually altered the polarity of the universe, that he can create a room where this is the case, where being Luciano Barbera is as important as being Kanye West.”
