Bloody Mary and Snit

DSC_0572The Snit is strictly a mid-western thing that originated in Minnesota, where a small  portion of beer is served with a Bloody Mary. The Rhinelander shorty is a perfect compliment to the PQM version made with Tito’s Vodka.

The Shoemaker

The Shoemaker is a film about Frank Catalfumo: a 91-year-old shoemaker and repairer who’s lived in Brooklyn his entire life. Catalfumo opened his shoe shop upon return from World War II in 1945, and despite his age still works there five days a week.

Billy Sunday

DSC_0627After a short baseball career with the Chicago White Stockings, Billy Sunday became known to be the most celebrated and influential American evangelist during the first two decades of the 20th century. His preachings in support of prohibition likely played a significant role in the adoption of the Eighteenth Amendment in 1919.

Ironic. Today, Billy Sunday is a name for what’s becoming to be one of the best new bars in Chicago (and some would say in America) after just two months of open doors in the Logan Square neighborhood. Patrick, the man who “gets thing’s done around here”, describes it to be a beverage bar rather than a cocktail lounge for its extensive program (think house-made tonic water), led by mixologist Alex Bachmanand by whoever hand-chiseled the ice in my game-changing Old Fashioned.
